Week Seven - Up 1

What's going on? I'm frustrated.

Let me tell you about my week, then you can give me all the feedback and advice you can. I need it - big time.

This week, I have just about doubled the time and effort of my workouts. I refuse to get off the elliptical before 45 minutes is completed (most of the time doing about 50). For the first time, I am actually sweating while working out. I never sweat! It feels SO good. I burn from 520-570 calories on that elliptical every day!! I also do strenuous workouts with weights afterward - the kind that make that funny straining face that I thought I'd never do during those last few reps! When I leave the gym, I feel that awesome feeling of accomplishment - I love it.

Then, when I get home, I am still looking for opportunities to burn as many calories as possible - walking to school to pick up the kids instead of drive, doing extra crunches and push-ups here and there, etc.

However, ever since I have been pushing myself this hard, I have felt EXTRA hungry. I can not get over how hungry I have been this week!! It's almost like I feel like I have to be constantly eating in order to feel like I'm not uncomfortably hungry. A meal that would have normally satisfied me, doesn't anymore. I know that I am burning tons more calories, but it is terribly frustrating feeling like my work in the gym is not paying off right now.

This is the week before my "time of the month" - that could have something to do with it. Sing with me ladies - "I enjoy being a girl!" I always gain 2-3 pounds around this time. I will never forget what happened the day of Junior Prom. I was pms-ing big time. Chip was going to pick me up in about an hour. I put on my dress that was a perfect fit a couple of days before, and it was way too tight! My mom had to actually take an inch or two out of it so I could enjoy Prom! Then of course, it was a little too big a few days later.

So, I really hope that's what is going on, although I'm not feeling that bloated feeling I usually do. Perhaps my previous week is now showing. I really just don't know. Beth is reminding me that I can be building muscle too, and not to get discouraged. It's tough though. It is discouraging.

All feedback is welcomed - thank you all for taking the time to be a part of this journey with me.

This week I will commit again to work just as hard and hope that it will all catch up to me.

Shorts season is coming, and for once, I want to be wearing them!!

Honey, It happened to me too! No weight loss this week but...I worked out hard. Don't discourage...you are gaining muscle mass and losing inches. I hope that you are measureing your inches as well. Hang in there and work hard.

Love you,

Lisa

I'm sure everything you mentioned is combining to give you the results you're seeing: muscle mass building, pms-ing...those are no little things! Just keep up what you're doing - that's the key!

Tracy, you are looking awesome! Just look at the picture from the beginning of this blog and the one you posted yesterday. I see a great difference. You are doing it! We are all rooting for you!

Your body is freaking out and trying to store the weight. Keep up the good work this week and your body will realize, "Oh, you don't want me to hold on to this."

Remember to eat conciously. Put the fork down in between bites.

I have a feeling you are going to see good things at your next weigh in! This post has inspired me to have better workouts this week!

You are SO awesome!! My only advice would be to measure yourself. You can't see all of the results on the scale and you shouldn't. I wish I could get the exercise bug again. I can feel ow good you feel when you describe your workouts. You can SO do this. And you know it will catch up to you, so keep up the good work!
Love you!

Like the commercials say, I'm a size healthier. It sounds like you are definitely building muscle. Are your clothes fitting differently? I think an awful lot of emphasis is on pounds when so many other things come into play too. And. Do you look at yourself in the pictures. You really are looking good. Keep it up and while you're at it, give yourself a pat on the back. You are working very very hard.
Love,
Mom
P.S. Kelley's Sr. year in high school is the year that Jeanette and I ran during seminary every single morning. I did not lose pound one! These Jones body types make it tough!

Aw, sorry your frustrated, but keep it up! You will notice the difference I'll bet! You really can tell the difference in the pictures, so something is definitely working!

Ditto to everyone. Muscle weighs more than fat, plus it's that time of the month. You're doing great, and you're DEFINITELY getting healthier, so keep it up.

Here's a tip for the hunger. Eat a protien at breakfast and mid afternoon. It is hard to use the calories on the high-cal protien, but it really pays off. When I stay on top of protien my cravings and hunger stay in control. Without the protien, I tend to binge. I also trick myself by eating the 94% fat free popcorn. It looks like a lot of food, but is hardly any calories. You are looking awesome. Your work will pay off in the weeks to come. I personally don't believe in weighing yourself the week before your period starts. It is completely inaccurate and self-defeating. I would ignore it if I were you.

You look amazing. I went back and forth from last week to this week and you look thinner to me. More toned for sure!! Muscle weighs more than fat! I am sure that you are more hungry, and your body needs it! Just try to eat healthy, and maybe try 6 smaller meals, or healthy snacks between meals. Hang in there! It is working!

I forgot to say that you need to try to take the next picture EXACTLY how you took the first one. I know you are wearing the same clothes. But, try to hold the sign the same and have the same dimensions in the shot. I KNOW you will be able to see the difference! Hope you had a good week. BTW, When we post, does something tell you there's a new post? Or do you just have to check each one to see if someone replied? Just wondering?

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who comment - I will say it again, how much I appreciate it, and how much it is helping me. Wendi, I set it up that I get an e-mail that I have a new comment. I always get SO excited for those! I will try what you said with the next picture, but I'm afraid! I do see a difference though. Look at the roll in my stomach in the first picture! Wow!

Tracy,
I am so in awe of your commitment that I have to take a moment to write you a quick note. First, I want to ask if you are following some sort of low calorie "diet"? and for how long. After approximately 72 hours of dieting (lowering your calories) your body will begin to produce a starvation hormone. This is what kept poineers from starving to death on long periods with low calories. When you lower calories your body thinks it may be starving and actually starts to store fat; this is especially true if you are eating under 1000 calories per day. Thus your metabolism slows. You are doing the right things but your body is scared. Here's a sugguestion: Every week or 10 days go ahead and eat 2000 or even 2500 calories for a day or 2. NOTE: these should be good healthy calories, not refined sugar or high fat foods. Doing this will dissapate that starvation hormone that is telling your body you are crossing the plains and it needs to store fat. There is so much more I haven't said here, so we need to do lunch! Also, I have a thought about body fat percentages. It is so motivating to women who are not seeing the immediate results they want to see on the scales to track their body fat. Then you can see the big picture of fat vs. muscle so stop into the club sometime and we'll take your body fat!
Keep up the awesome work girl - you are inspiring!
